Why You Should Sell Your Domain

Reseller - Domain Names

By Raphael Clarke

The economy is in the can, you're certainly not debt free, and it looks like nothing is getting better any time soon. But wait, can't you do anything with that old domain that's just been rotting for 6 years? You had plans to do something with it, but you just never got up and did anything with it. That fugly home page has been sitting up there since day one, and you've been renewing the domain year after year after year. Did you ever think it was worth some good money?

The answer is: yes; your domain has value. How much? I am unable to tell you for sure without seeing it, but if your domain is one of the good ones, then it could be worth up to $10,000. Definitely much more if it's a premium domain. There isn't anyone out there that couldn't use money like that in times like this. But how do you collect this money that could be yours? It's easy. Just sell your domain name.

If you don't have a domain name, it could be a little difficult to spring into the market right now, but it's definitely not unfeasible. Snatch up as many domains as you can on an auction site, then sell domain names that you bought up for a great price. Not so cheap that you aren't turning a profit, but cheap enough that people are more likely to pick your domain over a different domain. If you haven't sold a domain name, it's important that you do a lot of research before you go ahead and jump into this line of work. You don't want to jump headfirst into the pool, and only after learn that it's a mere 3 feet down to the floor, if you can understand my metaphor!

It's not difficult to sell domain names, you start off on an auction site. Just go to the auction site, and submit your domain. They will likely charge you a small fee, but that's nothing compared to what the return may be. After someone purchases your domain, you won't feel as bad that you spent a couple dollars for creating a listing for your domain.

If you don't have a very good domain name, you have to make it known on the web. Research some simple optimization techniques to get your domain name higher up in the results pages, that way when you sell it, your domain has a bit more extra selling power than your competitors who have similar domains.

Would you like to make some easy scratch without selling your prized possession? Remove that home page and put up some advertisements instead. In this line of work, we call this 'parking a domain'. More specifically, monetized domain parking. This way of parking is much more lucrative than having a simple home page that does nothing to build profits for you. We call that method non-monetized parking.

What happens after you sell your domain? It's up to you. Personally, I would purchase another and attempt to and make a profit on that one too, but most other domainers would keep the cash and pay off their debts. The bottom of the story is this: If you own a domain name, it would be a great idea to sell now, rather than later. The domain market is dry as of late. Take the advice from a fellow domainer who sells domain names for a living and auction your domains. We need them.
